Postcards, [Children in Colonial Army Uniforms in Ethiopia], c. 1936                                                       Illustrated by Aurelio Bertiglia (Italian, 1891–?)                                                                               XC2008.01.17.206.3

In this set of postcards, children are cast in the role of colonial “liberators” and combatants—doling out humanitarian aid to oppressed Africans, and chasing away and accepting the surrender of infantile Ethiopian warlords.
